Francisco Goya and a Lady Named Maja
The story of the two paintings of the lady Maja for the prime minister Duke Manual de Godoy. The paintings La Maja Desnuda and La Maja Vestida showed the subject in the same pose but for one difference. A playboy prime minister gets two paintings of his mistress made - one where she is nude and one where she is clothed. She is holding the same pose on the same chair in both paintings. He then installs the... (posted by Catheringarney 1 year 176 days ago.)

Frida Kahlo The Lioness of Mexico
Frida Kahlo was Born in Coyoacan in 1907, Kahlo is known for the intensity of her work, her vibrant use of color and somewhat for her self portraits. As such, the initial description sounds eerily similar to Vincent Van Gogh but the similarities end there. When looking over the masters of the art world, two main characteristics seem to define them. First, they are almost exclusively western, in the earlier days... Of Depth in Art
Henry Ward Beecher once commented that "Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures." Beecher undoubtedly has a point with this observation. One only has to look at the later works of Van Gogh and how the nature of his paintings changes as his own mood and mental state changes, in order to see the obviousness of the comment. The contrast between the happiness of the early work in Arles and the... (posted by Catheringarney 1 year 197 days ago.)

Paintings for Xmas
Christmas is as ever approaching and with it, numerous worries. What are we doing for Christmas, How will we make this year special, who is going to prepare dinner, is the oven big enough, will there be room for everybody and much more. Ah yes, the season to be jolly is definitely also the season to get busy. Even if all these details are taking care of, one thing comes up every year. What am I going to buy for everybody as their... The Happiness of Renoir
Monet and Renoir met each other in Paris already in 1862, while they were studying under Charles Gleyre. Renoir also met and befriended Alfred Sisley and Frdric Bazille there. However, it was not until that first impressionist exhibition more than 10 years later that Renoir and Monet really started to receive public recognition. The works of Renoir are today considered among the finest within the school of impressionism. He... (posted by Catheringarney 1 year 227 days ago.)

Cubism Today
Among the most mentioned artistic movements of the 20th century, we find Cubism. The name itself I widely known and yet what the movement is, what it stands for and who its main contributors are is not something most people can readily answer. As such, identifying what the impact of the movement is and where we see this impact in our lives today is not known and that is a shame, as this helps us see the world in a clearer, more complete...
